About Thermal Coal
Thermal coal, also called steam coal, is used primarily for power generation and industrial heating. It is traded across standard calorific grades, quoted on a gross-as-received (GAR) or net-as-received (NAR) basis, with ash, sulphur, moisture and volatile matter defined per grade.
Grades are supplied across the common calorific range, from around 4,200 GAR up to high-calorific coal above 6,000 GAR, sourced from established producing regions. Final grade, origin and parameters are confirmed per shipment.
Each shipment is verified by independent inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas or equivalent) at the loading port, with a certificate of analysis issued per cargo.
